Rita

These are the first in a series I hope to do on foreign women. The idea is to explore the lives of women who are living in places other than where they were born and raised. As China is so geographically and culturally diverse, foreign women I photograph here will include any woman who is not from Beijing. Each set of portraits will include basic information about the woman, including age, nationality, job, wage, reason for being where they are, how long they have been there, how long they think they will stay, and why they think they may eventually leave.

This is Rita. She is a Canadian embassy employee, a Canadian citizen, and a photographer. She's been in Beijing for the past five years. She came to China for the hell of it, and stays because she loves her life here.

Hong Kong

Before I left for Hong Kong I picked up a little Huqiu at a second hand store in Beijing, and these pics were the results. Unfortunately my new favourite toy disintegrated upon returning to the capital.

Beijing Drag

Beijing T Show

Beijing's gay scene is anything but underground. Though relatively small, the gay community in China's capital is vibrant and creative, throwing some of the liveliest events around town. These pics were from the recent P&T show at Tun.

And what's a little T without some D?
